'Devil's Gate Dam' and Show

'Devil's Gate Dam'.......oil on canvas panel.......7x9 inches (SOLD)

Wow! Is it already February!?
Hello bloggers and draft dodgers! Lend me your ear for the new year! Hope everyone’s year is off to a rambunctious start! Started off the new year with an impromptu visit to Jumbo’s Clown Room and received a complementary birthday lap dance, much to the delight of the lascivious voyeurs who make up our Wednesday night painting workshops. Thanks for making me feel special guys ;-)
It's all just a blurred memory now except for the nasty head cold I caught and the harrowing 15 hour hang over I endured the day following my 40th birthday soiree. Sworn off drinking AGAIN! Hope to find the meaning of life by February 17th, 2008. No particular reason for that date, but it's important to have deadlines and stick to them.
Pictured above is a painting I did over the holidays at the Devil’s Gate Dam alongside my painting comrade Jose.

I'm extremely pleased to announce my painting 'Chapter Four' (pictured below) has been accepted into the ‘Salon International 2008’ juried exhibition. This juried exhibition is a project of the International Museum of Contemporary Masters and will be hosted by Greenhouse Gallery of Fine Art in San Antonio, Texas. Exhibition opens in gallery and on web site on April 12th, 2008.

'Chapter Four'.......oil on panel........16x20 inches
The lovely young lady is Ben’s cousin, Nova. I attempted to capture her quiet intensity as well as the soft, glowing light that illuminated her as dusk was quickly approaching.

You are so young!! Happy Birthday and glad to see you posting again. I missed the inspiration. Two beautiful new paintings... and congrats on being accepted to the Salon ( not that there would be any question of that )
Your painting of Nova has a delicious play of hard and soft edges forcing the viewers eyes back to her face. I also really like the multitude of harmonious grays working as a backdrop to the intense Cadmium reds in her sweater.

Can't wait for the next post....
Cheers... Andrew

Yes... congratulations and happy birthday!

I really enjoy seeing your paintings! I like the yellow/red underpainting I find in your pictures. It would be great if you could take a few pictures as you are making a painting and post them so we could see your process.

pu-leeeze? :0)

Well it's about time! Nice damn painting. As usual, love the under painting and economy of brush strokes. Beautiful electrical wires. Don't be such a stranger to your blog, we all want to see more paintings.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the belated birthday greeting!
So they say 40 is the new 30!!!
Whatever that means....
I'm just thankful I still have my hair and a functioning libido ;-)
I appreciate your warm comments on the paintings!

Cheers!
Jennifer

Great painting of the Dam Jennifer! I love that diagonal of raking light from top right to bottom left. The bottom piece also very nice.. looks slightly different from your normal style somehow? Happy 40 B day too... (remeber 40 is the new 20!! wink wink.) I hope life's still interesting now that you know the meaning of it. :)

fine stuff as usual! Mike

Happy belated birthday Jennifer!

As always - you never disappoint with your wonderful blend of accurate drawing and abstract passages. The edge variation is so pleasing!

Congrats on the Greenhouse show too. Thanks for the comments you left as well!

The day Hugh Hefner turned 80 the media began remarking that eighty is the new 40 which is pretty young when it's a ways in the rear view mirror. What ever ;) I digress after reading the posts.
I came to give you a high 5 for your cameo in Informed Collector.
Slamming composition and value is the first thing you see and then the subject emerges. Beautiful!

Nice to see some new stuff from you. Happy belated B-Day. I hit the big 40 this last year. The only thing hard about that was my attitude. ;-}

Hi Mary,

Aaah yes..Hugh Hefner....
To have such virility at that age is quite remarkable...Go Hugh Go! ;-)
