Sycamores and Picnic Table
oil on panel............ 6x8" I painted this simple, little study at the Betty Davis Park. I wanted to capture the sense of isolation along with the feeling of comfort, serenity and familiarity.
J- you summed it up pretty well emotionally in you description, but in addition technically I really like how the light just blazes in this one, one of your hallmarks. I also love the brushy texture of the gesso ground on the board combined with economical brushstrokes to give this one a bonus effect for the tree's bark and brush.
This was an experimental painting for me. The brushy texture is a result of an acrylic modeling paste I applied to my pre-gessoed panel. At first, it was excruciatingly frustrating to manipulate the paint over this overly absorbent surface, however, I started to enjoy the somewhat dry pastel look and feel to it as the painting developed.
