Art Fair
'Taking a Break'...........oil on panel.............12x16"
While making my way through the exhibition booths at the Beverly Hill's art fair back in October, I came across a gentleman unwinding from a day's hard work. The sun dappled tents and luminous pink flower bed caught my eye. I found the high contrast lighting on the jaunty exhibitor to be quite appealing as well. I took a few reference photos and completed this painting at the studio.

Best in show! And you weren't even in the show.. lol
Again a painting that i could watch for hours, and again with such a nice underpainting. Men, what would i like to see a work in progress from you.
Fantastic light in this piece- I agree with Rene, I would love to see a WIP!!
Sounds like a workshop is developing..
Actually Rene, that's not a bad idea. I might just do that. :-)
Thanks Ryan,
Creating a sense of radiance was the main goal in this particular piece.
Thanks Bill,
Where's my prize money??
;-)
Another wonderful painting, Jennifer. Apart from your great colour sense, your reduced brushwork, which shows your underpainting colour where you need it, is so outstanding.
Oh, I had forgotten to thank you for posting my links on your site. I have done the same with your links in hope that many people will see your work and that the people here in Europe will become more aware of that kind of painting, which is here almost extinct.
When's the workshop? :) These are just fantastic. The light and shadow in this and LA Wash... nice!
This is a really nice painting! You drafting ability becomes quite obvious with the figure in this piece. I love the pensive expression you've given the guy in the chair.. it's like he is reflecting on something after just having taken a lunch break.
Hi Stefan,
Thank you for the generous compliments!
I am surprised to hear that this type of painting is almost extinct in Europe as that is the birthplace of impressionism.
Hi Liz,
Thanks!
I gave Bill the permission to constantly badger me about teaching a workshop until I actually go and do it. I'll keep you posted. :-)
Michael,
I'm glad that came across in the painting. My goal was to have the figure appear relaxed and blitheful.
