Zuma Beach
Station #10...........oil on panel............11x14"
In order to banish the holiday blues and infuse a little warmth into my cold, wintery days, I painted a beach scene using a small color sketch and photo reference. It was overcast that morning and the clouds began to evaporate at around noon which caused the background mountains to appear veiled and mysterious. I wanted to create a sense of vast space and isolation by using the deserted life guard staion as a focal point.
Happy feet......
although they look a little puckered from wading in the freezing water too long!

Love the little birds and the little feet. ;-) Nice big sense of empty quiet. The under painting does convey a promise of warmth in the future. Enter this one in a contest. It's a winner.
Jennifer... warm and luscious! Good painting over the holidays. I'll email any good photos I shoot.. might be a couple. Thx for your friendship through '06.. now on to '07!
Bill,
I look forward to seeing your holiday pix!
Here's to a new year of creative breakthroughs, prosperity, new friendships and peace!

Love those toes eeuh tones :-P
What underpaintings can do, it's just awesome.
I like the pink underpainting coming through!! There is nothing more difficult than paintig a simple scene and you've done a great job of it.
Cheers... Andrew Judd
I have to add to all that has been written, the under tone, the simplicitiy and the happy little toes and birds ;-), that you are great with the palette knife. Merry X-mas and a happy new year from Stefan.
I agree Rene, underpaintings can add a little extra spark and color vibration in a painting (and I find it unifies a painting as a whole)
Thanks Mark,
The birds do add a more naturalistic element to the painting.
Thanks Andrew!
The quiet simplicity of the deserted beach is what appealed to me. The challenging aspect of the painting process was to suggest more with less.
Thanks Stefan and a Merry X-mas and Happy New Year to you!
Cheers!
Stunning! Masterful!
Thanks Joy!
Jennifer.. I have been in a funk all weekend, not able to get going. Just studying your amazing artwork has got me inspired again.
Thanks!
Your welcome Robin!
Funny how I felt the same about your beautiful and inspiring paintings.

Thanks Ryan!
I intentionally painted the life-guard shack small to create a sense of vastness.
