Farmer's Market, Chinatown

'Farmer's Market, Chinatown'.........16x20"...........oil on panel
As I made my way back home from Chinatown one sunny afternoon, I drove by a parking lot bustling with sprightly shoppers.
Off in the distance, canopies aglow with light were set up to provide shade for the vendors.
The combination of rich color, shimmering light and the figures bestowed the right atmosphere of gaiety and vivacity which impelled me to paint this scene.

Great one Jennifer! The palm, truck, and umbrellas are dynamic against the muted colors of the architecture and sky. And the figure in the foreground and the birds pull your eye into the distance. Very strong piece.

Great piece Jennifer!! I really like the composition. It is balanced and the eye is led along the row of umbrellas from left to right drawing you back into the scene. I'd trade weather conditions with you anytime... Toronto Canada is too cold to paint outdoors at the moment.

Cheers.. Andrew

Jennifer.. you are a cool painter.. the birds, the alley, the people milling about. ah the feel of the warm ambience. I am swimming in colors - I'm deep inside the L.A. Chinatown marshmallow..... I want Peking duck! Another masterwork!

This is a feel good painting. Even though your using cool colors theres a very warm festival feel to it. Like my friend Tanner used to say... I can look at this painting for quite a long while.

Nice one Jennifer!

Hi Andrew,
The lead-in using the umbrellas was not intentional, however it might have been instinctual (thanks for noticing that by the way)
I must admit at times I take this California weather for granted; I keep forgetting how cold it gets in Canada. brrrrrrrr.....

Cheers to you :-)

Very cool Jennifer.
PS. Wrong spelling compelled me to delete the previous post.

Héé where is the W.I.P. ?!

What a glow this painting has,
That building just above the car
is almost transparent. Im still wonder how you do it. Such size,
such strong colors, strokes and yet sooo fresh. Unbelievable.

Another stunning piece, Jennifer. Lots of things had been already written here about this paining that I agree with. Your sense of color is wonderful and also the figure in the foreground looks very natural, like the whole. Grrrreat!!
